波士顿大学观鸟指南

The cedar waxwing is a medium-sized, sleek songbird with a large head, short neck, and short, wide bill. It has a distinctive crest that often lies flat and droops over the back of its head. The wings are broad and pointed, and the tail is fairly short and square-tipped. 
The cedar waxwing has a black mask around its eyes, a tan head and breast, a yellow belly, and grayish-brown upperparts. The tail has a yellow band at the tip, and some of the wing feathers have waxy red tips that give the bird its name. 
Juveniles are more heavily marked than adults, with dusky streaks below and a fainter dark mask. Some birds may also be less intensely colored and lack the red feather tips in the wings. 
Cedar waxwings are known for their acrobatic foraging, often perching at the tips of thin branches to feed on berries and other fruits. They frequently gather in large flocks, especially during the fall and winter months when they can be seen devouring fruit wherever they can find it.
